Garden Heights builds interactive English novel-study workbooks for young readers — going beyond comprehension to explore the history, culture, and craft that bring each story to life.
Garden Heights is an online library of part-by-part interactive workbooks built around classic and modern children’s and young-adult novels. Students read the original book, then work through a matching online workbook that deepens their understanding of the story — its setting, its history, its characters, and the way it is written. Every workbook is auto-graded and gives instant feedback, so reading becomes active, not passive.
Our titles are organized into seven reading levels, from early chapter books (Grades 1–3) to classics and mature reads (Grade 8+), so a reader can grow with us over many years.
Most study guides stop at “what happened.” Each Garden Heights workbook also explores the history, setting, cultural and religious context, the author’s life, and the literary elements and devices that make a story worth reading.
Like a garden, real learning begins with roots — deep, quiet, and slow to form, yet impossible to uproot once they take hold. Through literature, Garden Heights cultivates language, culture, and critical thinking: roots that hold firm below, heights that keep rising above.
Garden Heights is built on the philosophy of CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) — integrating subject knowledge with language development. Our framework adds one new C to the classic four:
Mastering subject knowledge.
Using language as a tool for learning — fluency over perfection.
Building thinking and reasoning skills.
Seeing through different perspectives.
Learning isn’t complete until you can explain it to someone else. Every workbook ends with a Teach It prompt — because the moment you teach, you truly understand.
And because test skills are our strength, every workbook weaves an integrated Standardized Test section right into the novel — covering every SAT and TOEFL question type — so learners build real exam skills easily, naturally, and with fun, without ever leaving the story.
Garden Heights serves students and families reading at home, and teachers running novel studies in the classroom. Teachers can also open printable, answer-keyed Workbook PDFs and print them straight from the page for their own class. See pricing for plan details.
