Privacy Policy

Plain-language summary: Garden Heights collects only what it needs to run your subscription and workbooks — account details, payment information (handled by our payment processor), and a student’s workbook progress and scores. We do not sell personal information. Because our readers are often children, we ask that a parent, guardian, or teacher set up and supervise accounts for young students.

1. Who we are

This Privacy Policy explains how Garden Heights (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects personal information when you use our website at gardenheightsacademy.com and our online workbooks (the “Service”). If you have any questions, contact us at [email protected].

2. Information we collect

Account information — the name and email address used to create a subscription; a display name and username; the student’s grade; an optional birthday and native language; a parent’s email address when the student is under 14; and (for teachers) school or classroom details you choose to provide.
Reader profiles — on Family plans, the first name (or nickname) and grade a parent enters for each additional reader, so scores can be kept separate.
Workbook activity — a student’s answers, scores, completed parts, progress report-card data, which workbooks and parts were opened and when (including reading-streak dates), so we can grade work and show progress.
Payment information — subscriptions and PDF purchases are processed by our third-party payment provider. We receive confirmation of payment and basic billing details, but we do not store full card numbers on our servers.
Communications — messages you send us by email or social media, and our replies.
Technical & usage data — basic information your browser provides (such as device type, browser, and general usage), a random device identifier we assign to each signed-in device so we can enforce your plan’s device limit (shown to you in Settings, where devices can be removed), and data stored locally in your browser (for example, to remember your progress or access state).

3. How we use information

To provide the Service — deliver workbooks, grade answers, and show progress report cards.
To process subscriptions, PDF purchases, and apply our refund policy.
To respond to your questions and provide support.
To maintain, secure, and improve the Service.
To comply with legal obligations.

4. Children’s privacy

Garden Heights is intended for use by young readers under the supervision of a parent, guardian, or teacher. We do not knowingly collect more personal information from a child than is needed to provide the Service, and we ask that a responsible adult create and manage accounts for students under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information without appropriate consent, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it. We do not use children’s information for advertising and we do not sell it.

5. Cookies & local storage

We use essential cookies and browser local storage to keep you signed in, remember workbook access, and save progress. We do not use advertising cookies. You can clear or block this storage in your browser settings, but parts of the Service may stop working if you do.

6. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us operate the Service, and only as needed, including:

Payment processing — to take subscription and PDF payments securely.
Website hosting & delivery — to serve the website and workbooks.
Legal & safety — when required by law, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.

These providers are permitted to use your information only to perform services for us.

7. Data retention

We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may ask us to delete your account data at any time (see Section 9).

Retention after account closure (fraud prevention). When you delete your account or take a refund, we permanently delete your records — report cards, reading history, profiles, device list, and purchases. As a narrow exception, we retain one minimal record: a one-way cryptographic fingerprint (SHA-256 hash) of your email address, together with the closure date and a refund count. We do not keep your email address in readable form, your name, or any child’s data. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in preventing abuse of our one-time no-questions refund (for example, repeatedly subscribing and refunding). This fingerprint cannot be used to contact you or to reconstruct your address, and it is retained no longer than needed for that anti-abuse purpose. Because it is kept for fraud prevention and to enforce our agreements, it may be exempt from a general erasure request; see our Refund Policy.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your choices & rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request, email [email protected]. A parent, guardian, or teacher may make these requests on behalf of a student.

10. International users

We may process and store information in countries other than where you live. By using the Service, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in those locations.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
